MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS in the WEST SHORE (west side of Vancouver Island, within the Greater Victoria area, British Columbia) [nominations open Sept 4 to 14, 2018]

  • City of Langford [Mayor & 6 councillors] – Running for Mayor: Robert Fraser, Stew Young (incumbent). Incumbents running again: Denise Blackwell, Lillian Szpak, Matt Sahlstrom, Lanny Seaton, Roger Wade. New candidates for council: Wendy Hobbs (as well as for school trustee), Rick Johal, Norma Stewart. Not running again: Winnie Sifert. [All Candidates Forum – Thurs Oct 4 at Langford Legion, 6 to 8 pm, hosted by WestShore Chamber]
  • City of Colwood [Mayor & 6 councillors] – Mayoralty candidates: Carol Hamilton (incumbent), Rob Martin (presently a 2-term Colwood councillor). Incumbents running for Council: Gordie Logan, Cynthia Day, Jason Nault. First-time as candidates for Colwood council: Michael Baxter, Dean Jantzen, Doug Kobayashi, Scott McDonaldEve Millington, Misty Olsen, Stewart Parkinson, and Aaron Weisgerber.  Not running again: Lilja Chong, Terry Trace.
  • District of Sooke [Mayor & 6 councillors] – Confirmed as running for Mayor: Kevin Pearson [article on Pearson – Sept 10], Mick RhodesMaja Tait (incumbent). Running for council: Rick Armour (has been on Council at a previous time), Jeff Bateman, Al Beddows, Doni Eve Herb Haldane (two-terms, served prior to current term), Peter Jonassen, Rick Kasper (incumbent), Ebony Logins (incumbent), Megan McMath, Brenda Parkinson (incumbent), Phillip Rossner, Tony St-Denis, Jeff Stewart.
  • District of Metchosin [Mayor & 4 councillors] – publicly stated as running for Mayor: John Ranns (incumbent). Running for Council: Darren Brown, Brian Domney, Sharie Epp, Norm Hardy, Kyara Kahakauwila (incumbent), Marie-Terese Little, Andy A MacKinnon (incumbent), Jenny Millar. Expected to run: Kayara Kahakauwila.
  • District of Highlands [Mayor & 4 councillors] – Uncontested for Mayor: Ken Williams (incumbent). Running for council: Leslie Anderson, Ann Baird, Gord Baird, Marcie McLean (incumbent), Karel Roessingh (incumbent), and Rose Stanton.
  • Town of View Royal [Mayor & 4 councillors] – Uncontested as running for Mayor: David Screech (incumbent). Running for council: Nathan K Daisley, Adam Flint, Damian Kowalewich (I), Gery Lemon, Ron Mattson (incumbent), John Rogers (incumbent).
  • Juan de Fuca Electoral Area [1 director]: Mike Hicks (incumbent), Daniel Yates.


SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEE ELECTION [Sooke School District 62 – SD62]

  • Milne’s Landing Zone[3 trustees] Sooke area. Confirmed candidates: Bob Phillips (incumbent), Marian Cvitkovic, Neil Poirier (incumbent), Britt Santowski, Margot Swinburnson (incumbent), Allison Watson.
  • Belmont Zone[4 trustees] Langford/Colwood area and parts of View Royal. Confirmed candidates: Cendra Beaton, Bob Beckett, Russ Chipps, Wendy Hobbs (incumbent), Ravi Parmar (incumbent), Dianna Seaton (incumbent), Blair Sloane, Trudy Spiller.


SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEE ELECTION [Victoria School District 61 – SD61]

  • Applicable for voters in some parts of View Royal – [9 trustees] based on which part of View Royal they reside in (others are eligible to vote in SD62 for 4 Belmont Zone trustees – see above).
